Florida Alliance for Renewable Energy

End of Session
A letter from Mike Antheil, Executive Director, FARE                                               5/12/09

FARE Supporter,

On behalf of the Florida Alliance for Renewable Energy, I would like to offer you a sincere word of thanks for your participation in 2009. As you know, FARE is built on a platform created by the countless individual efforts put in by residents and businesses all across Florida. We will count on you in joining us to re-double our efforts in 2010.

As the final decisions come down from Tallahassee, the dream of a thriving renewable energy future for Florida is still alive, but the reality is that it will not be in 2009. As you have probably read by now, the future of renewable energy was seemingly trampled this session without even the faintest sincere effort of passing a renewable energy bill. Today though, FARE's mission is as clear as ever, and the resolve and reasons for achieving this renewable energy future are as real as ever. The legislature is headed home for the next nine months, and as the issue of renewable energy continues to come to a boil, our position statement and rationale for the immediate need for a Feed in Tariff policy will continue its unshakable momentum, stopping at nothing short of victory for millions of Floridians in 2010.

Our advantages are too many too count; including the depth and breadth of our coalition, the immediate need to create jobs and put people back to work, the demand in Florida and the nation to embrace renewable energy as a way to decrease our dependence on foreign oil and establish energy security, the need to show environmental stewardship, and the proven track record that a Feed in Tariff policy has had to meet all of these objectives and more. The demand for this policy did not go away just because the Florida legislature went home. The demand is still alive, and growing stronger by the day.

We welcome your participation in the 2010 campaign. Our efforts are extremely widespread and will include individuals, businesses and associations in virtually every city in the state. We are counting on our supporters to work to the best of their ability to advance our cause. We are asking that members do as much as they can, but at very least commit this year to help us educate fellow Floridians. We will host workshops, town halls, and other regional or local events, and we need volunteers in every locale to help spearhead these efforts. We will continue our membership drive until the countless beneficiaries of Feed in Tariffs are well enough represented in membership, and have enough of a vested interest to make sure we succeed. We have received commitments from some of the largest companies in the renewable energy industry that they will help us double our efforts, and we will continue to build our coalition to include new industries and beneficiaries, such as developers, electricians, financial institutions, municipalities and many more. We will also continue our effort to align with other groups who advocate renewable energy. As we expand our membership to various markets, the coalition will continue to take on a life of its own, growing organically as more and more new members learn of how this policy can benefit almost every single person in the State of Florida.

*One important, immediate step that you can help us on right away is to help fill our contact database, if you have friends, family and colleagues who would like to be more involved with FARE and kept up to date with our 2010 campaign, have them sign up today at www.farenergy.org

In the month of June, FARE will go through an annual organizational session, where we will precisely hone our campaign strategy for 2010. Our mission is to move the needle from a position of hoping we can accomplish our goal to removing all doubt. Together we can make this a certainty.

 Thank you!

Mike
